The PMS process can help reproduce particular colors you want as PMS colors are specific color formulas that will reproduce color very accurately in print.
Instead of stimulating colors by creating separate layers using multiple ink colors with CMYK four-color process, PMS ink colors are pre-mixed from existing color formulas and assigned a standard number.
On certain projects, both PMS colors are used in combination with CMYK process colors. Then, these are called 5-color or 6-color projects as they use 4 CMYK colors along with additional one or two PMS colors or even more. This technique is typically used to print certain elements of a design such as corporate logo.
